Cyber-Robbers Hit Bank
August 25, 2000

The old picture of a bunch of cowboys with their sawed off shotguns asking the employees of a bank to “reach for the sky, this is a stickup” is becoming a picture of the past. In today’s world, it is no longer sawed off shotguns that are used to rob a bank, but rather nothing more than a computer.

This new form of bank robbery has hit the British online banking world, as a gang of men was arrested on Tuesday for their attempted robbery. Apparently the British bank (known as Egg) was ready for the attack, but it took them six months worth of investigation and installation of new software in order for them to track down the culprits. Only the bank’s money, not customer deposits, was taken in this robbery; however, during the arrest it was alleged that other banks had also been victims to this gang’s attacks.
